Yellowstone National Park
The U.S. National Park system offers unique landscapes, beautiful scenery, and diverse wildlife. Yellowstone National Park, spanning nearly 3,500 sq. miles across Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho, was the world’s first national park. It’s known for its stunning canyons, hot springs, lush forests, and the famous Old Faithful geyser. Home to wildlife like wolves, bison, elk, and bears, Yellowstone is ideal for tent and RV camping.
Park History
Yellowstone has been inhabited for over 11,000 years by various Indigenous tribes. Established in 1872 as the world’s first national park, it became more accessible with the arrival of the railroad in 1883 and automobiles in 1915. Managed by the U.S. Army until 1916, Yellowstone is now preserved by the National Park Service to ensure its beauty for future generations.
Top Features
- Super Volcano: One of the world’s largest active volcanoes lies beneath Yellowstone, with the last lava flow occurring 70,000 years ago.
- Old Faithful: Known for regular eruptions, it typically erupts around 17 times daily.
- Hydrothermal Features: Half of the world’s hydrothermal features are here, with over 10,000 hot springs, mud pots, and geysers.
- Wildlife: Yellowstone hosts the largest animal concentration in the lower 48 states, including grizzly bears, bison, elk, wolves, and more. Visitors must keep a safe distance from wildlife.
Resident of the Month
Judy Hill
Judy Hill’s life is a true testimony of love and resilience. After reuniting with her high school sweetheart, David, at their 50th high school reunion, they rekindled their connection and got married, proving that it’s never too late for love.
Throughout her career as a secretary and librarian at Sidney Junior High School, Judy’s love for literature and dedication to nurturing young minds shone through. Her passion for horses and her active involvement in the Presbyterian church and community organizations demonstrate her compassionate and caring nature.
Despite facing hardships, including the loss of her son Chris, Judy’s spirit remains strong. Her love for music, books, and her family continues to bring joy and light into her life, even as she resides in Monark Grove Memory Care.
Judy’s story serves as a reminder of the enduring power of love, faith, and resilience, inspiring all those around her.
Pun Fun Day
November 8 is a day to turn our groans and guffaws into laughter: it’s Aid and Abet Punsters Day. Why would we want to encourage punsters to make their dreadful jokes? Because a good pun is a masterful, intelligent, and playful use of language, unlike these examples:
– Becoming a vegetarian is a huge missed steak.
– I couldn’t figure out how to use my seat belt, but then it clicked.
– The person who invented the door knocker won the “No Bell” Prize.
– Did you hear the one about the broken pencil? Forget it. It’s pointless.
