Join the Welcome Committee

Do you enjoy making new connections and helping others feel right at home? Then we want YOU for our brand new Welcoming Committee here at The Oscar! This dedicated group will play a vital role in making new residents feel comfortable and supported as they transition into our vibrant community. The first meeting of the Welcoming Committee will be held on Tuesday, April 9th at 3:00 pm in the Activity Room. We warmly welcome anyone interested in joining, even if you haven’t yet moved in but still reside in the area. Your future involvement would be invaluable in creating positive first impressions for our incoming neighbors.

 

Here are some of the ways the Welcoming Committee will contribute:
Greeting new residents and their families
Helping navigate the building.
Attend Lunch and Dinners for friendly Conversations.
Helping residents get settled in the community.
Attending social events and activities with new residents.

Our 60s & 70s-themed Music Bingo was a blast from the past, filled with toe-tapping tunes and far-out fun. Partygoers munched on delicious finger foods, indulging in classic tea sandwiches, fondue, and groovy cookies. But the real treat was the music! We belted out iconic hits from the swinging sixties and the funky seventies, marking off squares on our bingo cards with each familiar tune. The competition was fierce, but friendly, as everyone vied for those fantastic prizes. And let’s face it, who wouldn’t want to win a prize after showing off their best dance moves to “YMCA” or belting out a chorus of “I Will Survive”? So, here’s to another groovy gathering! Stay tuned for news on our next themed event – you won’t want to miss it!

Get ready to witness a celestial spectacle at Jons Sports Bar! We’re hosting a Total Eclipse Viewing Party on Tuesday, April 8th from 12:45 PM to 2:30 PM. Join us on the patio to catch this awe-inspiring astronomical event.

While we can’t stare directly at the sun without proper eye protection, we’ll have special eclipse viewing glasses available to ensure everyone can enjoy the sight safely. We’ll also have fun-themed sandwiches and snacks to fuel your amazement.

Mark your calendars and spread the word! This is an event you won’t want to miss.

Jane Dunn April Resident of the Month

June is a creative soul with a love for textiles and music. She enjoys sewing clothes, quilting keepsakes for her daughters, and singing in choirs and musicals. June is also an adventurous spirit. She participated in a leadership program that challenged her with tasks like climbing and jumping off ropes. Traveling brings her joy, with highlights including walks on ancestral land in Ireland, a baptism in the Jordan River, and breathtaking train rides through the Canadian Rockies. June values her family and the friendships she’s built with people from all over the country. Now, she’s excited to begin a new chapter at The Oscar, ready for the adventures and connections that await.

With over 30 years of culinary magic under his belt, Chef David brings a wealth of experience and passion to The Oscar’s kitchen. From leading renowned restaurants to championing the Farm-to-Fork movement, Chef David’s dedication to fresh, local flavors is unmatched. He even opened his own restaurant, “The Chef’s Table,” showcasing his playful twist on classic European cuisine. Now, Chef David brings his expertise to our community! Residents can expect delicious, innovative dishes crafted with fresh, seasonal ingredients. Fun fact: Chef David believes “food should be fun,” and his presentations are sure to live up to that motto. We’re thrilled to have Chef David Hill’s talent at The Oscar.

Texas Honey and Berry Granola

Texas Honey and Berry Granola

Ingredients:2 QTS rolled oats
3 cup Pecan Pcs
3 cup unsweetened coconut chips
1 cup Slivered Almonds
3 tablespoons kosher salt
1 ½ cup Dark brown sugar
1 cup Local Honey
1 cup extra virgin olive oil
1 cup dried Blueberries

Method:1. Preheat oven to 300. In a large bowl, mix together the oats, nuts, coconut, and salt.
2. In a small saucepan set over low heat, warm the sugar, honey and olive oil until the sugar has just dissolved, then remove from heat. Fold liquids into the mixture of oats, making sure to coat the dry ingredients well.
3. Line a large rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat, and spread granola over it. Bake until dry and lightly golden, 35 to 40 minutes, stirring granola a few times along the way.
4. Remove granola from oven, and mix into it the dried blueberries. Allow to cool to room temperature before transferring to a storage container. Makes about 1 Gallon.
