From the desk of Laura Blakeman

We have decked the halls and are preparing for family and friends to visit. These are a few items I would like to highlight for this month. We will have our annual Holiday Bazaar from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm on December 12th. Shop for your loved ones on Main Street, or shop for yourself! On the 12th of December, we will also have the Tidewell Carolers in our Memory Care Neighborhood.

We will be having a spirit week the week of the 15th. Please look at your weekly calendar for updated special treats throughout the week!! We will be spreading the cheer all month!! I also wanted to take a moment to thank Janice Stiegmann’s nephew, Mark, for our beautiful new baby grand piano. We are so very honored it found a home here at The Goldton at Venice.
The holidays are different for every family and every resident. We are making our traditions here at The Goldton at Venice. We are honored to have you as a part of it this year!! We look forward to celebrating with you and your families. Please reach out with anything you may need.
Season’s Greetings,

The iconic symbol of Glacier National Park is the mountain goat. This young goat is just learning to scamper around the rocky cliffs in the park.

Simple foods elevated with new flavors, continuous learning and happy satisfied customers is what Chef Caitlin lives for. She is a graduate of Keiser University with a Culinary Arts and Kitchen Management Degree, an Associates in Science from Schoolcraft Community College with a Minor in Nutrition and a certificate in Emergency Medicine. She holds certificates in Geriatric Nutrition, Childhood Obesity awareness, Diabetes education, Public Health and is a Florida State Certified Culinary Professional.

Caitlin is considered a local of Venice florida. She did her Culinary Externship at one of Venice’s most notable fine dining establishments; The Crows Nest alongside her mentor, CIA graduate Chef Mike Leopold. After graduating she became a Garde Manger Chef and then Pastry Chef for Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club. She then became the Executive Pastry Chef for Ophelia’s On the Bay on Siesta Key, an Area Catering Chef for Walters Wedding Estates in Denton Texas, then Executive Sous Chef at Off the Wagon Restaurant Group. She is happily married with two girls, and enjoys traveling with her family and of course, experimenting in the kitchen!

I believe that food feeds the soul, and everyone at any age deserves the best of the best for mealtime. From gourmet dinner dates, casual everyday lunches to the best breakfast sandwiches you’ll ever have. I want to serve food people can relate to, bring them back to their favorite memories, as well introduce exciting new combinations to revel in. My personal style is Modern American with a Seaside Southern flare. My goal at The Goldton is to continue improving, lead a team of true talent, and keep residents coming back for more!

Good Times at The Goldton

Good Times at The Goldton
Good Times at The Goldton

December 2024 is upon us and with that comes reflection and celebration. Some of us are looking forward to a bit of rest while others are ready to party hardy. Either way you and your families are planning to enjoy this holiday season, know that we here at The Goldton at Venice love each one of our residents, and you, our extended friends and family. With that, we will have our Giving Tree set up in our beautifully decorated front lobby once again with our Memory Support residents’ names hung, to be “adopted” to receive a special holiday gift from anyone wishing to share the love. You can imagine their delight to get a present especially for them. That brings us to our closing which reminds us of a memorable speech by someone with a truly wonderful, big heart.
“It is a love based on giving and receiving, as well as having and sharing and the love that we [they] give and have is shared and received. And through this having and giving…and sharing and receiving…we too can share and love and have and receive.” -Joey Tribbiani

Recipe of the Month

Traditional Scones

traditional-scones.jpg

Ingredients:
1 Egg
2 heaped teaspoons – Baking Powder
25 grams – Caster Sugar
1 heaped teaspoon – Vanilla Sugar (or caster sugar)
25 grams – Vegetable Shortening (or lard)
500 grams – Plain Flour
1 teaspoon – Salt (fine)
50 grams – Butter (unsalted)
250 milliliters – Heavy Whipping Cream (or double cream)
250 milliliters – Full Cream Milk
1 tablespoon – Milk

Directions:
Preheat the oven to 220°C (430°F) and place a baking tray inside to warm. Mix flour, salt, sugar, and baking powder in a bowl. Add butter and lard (or shortening), blending until it resembles damp sand. Gradually add milk, mixing until the dough just comes together. Avoid overworking the dough.

Roll the dough on a floured surface to about 3 cm (1 inch) thick. Cut scones with a round cutter, reshaping the dough gently if needed. Place scones close together on a baking tray. Brush with egg wash (beaten egg and milk). Bake for 10-15 minutes until golden. Check doneness with a thermometer (center should reach 85°C/185°F). Serve warm or at room temperature with Chantilly cream and strawberry jam.

Chantilly Cream: Whisk cream and sugar until soft peaks form.

Associate of the Month

Soreli Silva

We are thrilled to recognize Soreli as our employee of the month! She constantly goes above and beyond in her role and inspires the entire team. Soreli enjoys working here at the Goldton and says she has the greatest boss of all time. Outside of Soreli’s outstanding work ethic, she values spending most of her time with her two boys. Their favorite place to go is the theatre. We are proud to have such a hard-working woman on our team.

Memory Care | Resident of the Month

Georgia Donat

This month we are proud to honor Georgia as our resident of the month! She’s enjoyed traveling throughout her years to many interesting places. Georgia loves our ice cream socials and spending quality time with her husband who visits every day. They both get pretty competitive during a rousing game of Scattegories. We are delighted to have Georgia here as part of our Goldton family.
