Welcome to all our residents, families, and visitors! The summertime is FINALLY coming to an end and everyone is looking forward to cooler weather around here.

Congratulations to our employee of the month Ms. Ambrosia Linnear and resident of the month Ms. Jane Massing. Both of them are always having a smile on their faces and they both exhibit such a pleasant attitude at the community that is contagious to everyone they encounter!

September is special to me because we celebrate National Assisted Living Week and have some fun activities scheduled for September 8th-14th. This was originally started back in 1995 by the NCAL and is a perfect way to celebrate our staff for all of their hard work. Labor Day kicks off this month and we will also celebrate National Women’s Health & Fitness Day amongst other great activities!! Stop in anytime and we will love to show you around our wonderful community!!

Cooking with Chef

Cooking with Chef

The social aspect of cooking classes is often more powerful than what is being taught. Some classes will provide the perfect environment for seniors to connect with people their own age.

And what better way to socialize than with food?
Courses in your local area may even be the beginning of new friendships and connections.

Classes could also be a way for you to spend time with your family member. For example, you might both take the same course, especially if it isn’t targeted at seniors.

That approach could make them more comfortable about the idea and increase their enjoyment as well. You’d probably have fun too!

Visiting a safari animal park can be a delightful and enriching experience for seniors.

Connection with Nature: Safari parks allow seniors to immerse themselves in the natural world. The open spaces, lush landscapes, and wildlife sightings provide a refreshing break from the hustle and bustle of daily life. There’s something therapeutic about watching a herd of giraffes grazing or observing a lion basking in the sun.

Stimulating the Senses: The sights, sounds, and even smells of a safari park engage the senses. Imagine the thrill of hearing a distant roar or feeling the vibrations as an elephant walks by. These sensory experiences can invigorate the mind and promote overall well-being.

Reduced Stress: Being surrounded by nature has been linked to reduced stress levels. The calming effect of watching graceful zebras or playful monkeys can be therapeutic, especially for seniors dealing with anxiety or other emotional challenges.

Memorable Moments: A safari park visit creates lasting memories. Seniors can reminisce about spotting a rare bird, witnessing a lion’s majestic stride, or capturing a photo of a curious rhino. These memories become cherished stories to share with loved ones.

Recipe Spotlight

Beignets & Berries

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup butter, room temperature
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons warm water (120° to 130°), divided
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 package (1/4 ounce) quick-rise yeast
  • 1 large egg
  • 3-1/4 to 3-3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • Oil for deep-fat frying
  • Confectioners’ sugar
  • Berries and whipped topping, optional

Directions:
Beat butter, sugar, salt and cinnamon until crumbly. Beat in 1/2 cup water and evaporated milk. In another bowl, dissolve yeast in remaining 2 tablespoons water; add to milk mixture. Beat in egg until blended.

Add 2 cups flour; mix until well blended. Stir in enough remaining flour to form a soft dough (dough will be sticky). Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease the top. Cover; refrigerate 4 hours or overnight.

Bring dough to room temperature. On a floured surface, roll dough into a 16×12-in. rectangle. Cut into 2-in. squares. In a deep cast-iron skillet or deep- fat fryer, heat oil to 375°. Drop beignets, a few at a time, into hot oil. Fry until golden brown, about 1 minute per side. Drain on paper towels. Dust with confectioners’ sugar. If desired, serve with assorted berries and whipped topping.
