October 19,2024 from 2-4pm Octoberfest we will have petting zoo, face painting bounce house, Trick or Treat with our residents, live band, cotton candy, and food trucks. Come one come all!!

Santina Barnett

Santina Barnett Associate of the Month

Santina Barnett, originally from Sardis, MS and currently residing in Como, MS graduated from Panola High School in 2016. She has worked in senior living since then, joining The Goldton in Southaven in 2022. Santina enjoys connecting with her residents and takes pride in the care she provides, forming special bonds with them. She values her family time as well. Congratulations, Santina, on being named associate of the month—an honor well deserved!

Welcome to all our residents, families, and visitors! As we get into the Fall season, we have many exciting things going on at The Goldton at Southaven!!

But first I would like to congratulate our employee of the month Ms. Santina Barnett and resident of the month Ms. Nancy Nail!! Ms. Santina has been a Resident Associate at our community for two years and its always willing to go above and beyond her job duties to ensure our residents are well taken care of. Ms. Nail hasn’t been at our community long but has made a great impact with her huge smile and presence amongst the other residents!

We have many exciting things going at our community in October. Our residents will be headed to The Memphis Zoo for the Senior Safari on October 2nd. This fair will have over 100 sponsors and vendors and is a huge event amongst senior communities in the area. Our annual October Fest will be October 19th from 2-4pm at our community!! We will have food trucks, a petting zoo, bounce house and much more for your little ones to enjoy. We look forward to seeing you!!

Crafting Corner

Autumn is an inspiring time for crafting, thanks to its beautiful colors. This roundup of fall projects for seniors features fun and easy crafts that require no expensive tools or unique materials. The steps can be adapted to various abilities, making crafting enjoyable for everyone, regardless of the season. The main goal is to have fun!

Our residents enjoyed assisting living week especially the wheelchair and walker wash. Maintaining a clean wheelchair is vital for the user’s health and the equipment’s longevity. Regular cleaning helps keep it sanitary and in good working condition. It’s important to use the right techniques and materials to avoid damage and ensure safety and comfort. Special attention should be given to moving parts like wheels and bearings, as dirt can lead to wear and decreased mobility. Using a gentle brush to remove debris and ensuring the wheelchair is completely dry after cleaning helps prevent rust and water damage. Recipe Spotlight

Fall Chicken Skillet

Ingredients:
1 tbsp olive oil
1 lb chicken breasts, cubed
Salt & pepper
4 tbsp Garlic Butter
2-3 cups Brussels sprouts, halved
1 butternut squash, cubed
1 onion, sliced
2 Granny Smith apples, cubed
1/2 tsp thyme
1 tsp cinnamon
1 cup chicken broth, divided
2 oz crumbled bacon

Directions:
Cook seasoned chicken in olive oil until browned, set aside. In the same pan, melt Garlic Butter and sauté Brussels sprouts, squash, and onion for 8-10 minutes. Add apple, thyme, cinnamon, and 1/2 cup broth, cook until broth evaporates.

Stir in remaining broth and chicken, then garnish with bacon. Serve. Take off the heat, and garnish with crumbled bacon. Serve.

Smothered Fried Chicken, Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Seasoned Green Beans and Parker Rolls

Nancy Nails

Nancy Nails Associate of the Month

Nancy Nail, originally from Bridgeport, Connecticut, is the second oldest of five siblings and a graduate of Central High School and St. Vincent Nursing School. After completing nursing school, she served two years in the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps. While in Bethesda, she met her husband Paul on a blind date; they were together for 30 years and have three daughters, eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. The family lived in Oberlin, Ohio, then Tennessee, before moving to Southaven in 1986. In 2021, Nancy moved to Arkansas due to health issues, and in September 2024, she made Goldtown in Southaven her home, where she enjoys activities like bingo and arts and crafts. We are proud to recognize her as our resident of the month.
