Leader of the Month

Terrence Frances was born in New Orleans, La… Terrence is a husband and a father of five. He has been in the senior health care filed for more than 14 years. Terrence was an activity director for Thrive before becoming the ED here at The Goldton at Athens. He has been the ED for The Goldton at Athens for a year. The residents love him, and the staff looks up to him as a welcoming force. When Terrence isn’t working you can find him spending time with his family.

During the Thanksgiving dinner many of the resident’s family members talked about the change they have seen in the community. Roy Sullivan, (Ms. Robbie Sullivan’s) son said that it takes special people to do what we do (staff) and it shows. He also said that he would like to thank us (staff) for taking such good care of his mother.

Brazil is the most successful soccer team in history, winning a record five FIFA World Cup titles. Known for its skillful players, creative style, and attacking flair, Brazil has produced legends like Pelé, Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, Ronaldinho. Its deep passion for the sport and rich talent have made Brazil a dominant force in international soccer.

Crafty crafters

Bringing crafts to the residents has been one of the best things. The residents have been enjoying all of the crafts that they get to do. The weekend crafts are just as much fun for them as the crafts during the week. Here at The Goldton at Athens we welcome our visitors and staff to always join in on the fun.

Trinity Reform Chruch

This church comes every month to get to know the residents here at The Goldton at Athens. When they come, they have some of the children play the piano, sing, or do some other type of performance for the residents. Once they have done their performances the children sit with the residents and ask them questions about their lives. The residents enjoy the children as well as the children enjoy the residents. Trinity Reform Church is always welcome here at The Goldton at Athens.

John Hamner

John Hamner was born October 4, 1960, to the parents of Robert H. Hamner and Anne Hamner in Baton Rouge, La… Mr. Hamner has one brother (Scott Hamner) and one sister (Jenne) John Hamner attended Fayette County High School before going to Auburn University. Mr. John Hamner was a Senior Project Manager for Caddell and Bell Harbor International construction firms. Mr. Hamner’s religion of choice is Methodist. John says that the thing he loves about The Goldton at Athens is the community and the activities.

Recipe Spotlight:

Lemon Buttermilk Pie
with strawberry toping

Ingredients:
1 cup buttermilk
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 tbsp grated lemon zest
2 cups fresh Louisiana strawberries, sliced
2¼ cups sugar
1 tbsp flour
pinch of salt
2 eggs
2 egg yolks
1 tbsp pure vanilla extract
1 (9-inch) unbaked pie shell

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350°F. In a small mixing bowl, combine sliced strawberries with ¾ cup sugar, stir, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate. This should be done at least 6 hours prior to serving. In a large mixing bowl, combine remaining sugar, flour and salt. Blend well. Add eggs and egg yolks, and using a wire whisk, cream into sugar mixture. Once blended, add buttermilk, vanilla, lemon juice and zest. Whisk well to incorporate and dissolve sugar. Pour into pie shell and place on a cookie sheet. Bake 50 minutes or until pie is lightly browned and filling is just set. Remove and cool a minimum of 30 minutes prior to serving. Top each slice with a generous portion of sugared strawberries.

Wilma Bates

Wilma Bates was born November 24, 1947, in Limestone County. She attended Trinity High School. Ms. Wilma started working for The Goldton at Athens June 18, 2018. Ms. Wilma has worked in dietary. When Ms. Wilma is not working she like to bowl, dance, travel, and relax. She loves to interact with the residents. Wilma says The Goldton at Athens is a nice place to work.
