Leader of the Month

Daniel Chattom is the Manager of the Month. Danile was born in Mobile, Alabama and has been in nursing for over 16 years. Daniel has worked in several fields in nursing. He realized that his love for nursing was for senior adults, so he pursued a career working with senior adults. Danile is loved by the residents and staff here at The Goldton at Athens. Daniel’s choice of religion is Baptist. What he loves about working her at The Goldton at Athens is the residents and staff. When Daniel isn’t working you can find him playing bingo, and spending time with his loved ones.

“Finally we are no one” from Icelandic Band Múm

Finally we are no one is the second studio album by Icelandic band Múm, released in 2002, the band composed the songs Inside a lighthouse in the Westfjords, Galtarviti, one of the least populous and remote areas of Iceland. The album captures the essence of untouched beauty and serene isolation, a timeless ode to the remote magic of Iceland.

Crafty crafters

The residents love the crafts that are put on the calendar each month. Each month the crafting sessions are getting larger and some of the male residents are coming to the crafty crafter’s sessions.

Around the World with Atlas

Iceland’s dramatic landscape is shaped by its active volcanism and vast glaciers. It is home to over 130 volcanoes, including Eyjafjallajökull, and Europe’s largest glacier, Vatnajökull.

During summer, Iceland experiences the Midnight Sun, with almost 24 hours of daylight. In contrast, winter brings long nights, creating the perfect setting for Northern Lights displays.

Pet therapy

Once a month the second Thursday of each month The Goldton at Athens have Pet therapy. Ms. Shelia comes in after the exercise session has just finished. Immediately the residents start asking her to bring the dog over. Many of the residents come out of their rooms to visit with her.

Devotionals and Bible Study

Many of the residents here at The Goldton at Athens, only get their devotionals or bible study here where they call home now. It’s important to them to hear God’s word now. They often express to the staff how they feel about the word of God at this age in life. There’s another addition to their spiritual
journey. They will have another addition of church service on Sunday at 3 PM..

Patricia Taylor

Patricia Taylor

Patricia Taylor was born Patricia Ellison on March 10, 1938, in Chattanooga, Tn… Ms. Pat Taylor had a brother. Ms. Taylor went to Dickinson High School and only went to UTC for one year. Ms. Taylor was a Real Estate Agent for 26 years and even had an online business for beads on Ebay. Ms. Patricia meet her husband Louis Taylor while playing miniature golf at “Goonie Golf”. Ms. Taylor kept hitting the golf ball in the wrong direction and Mr. Louis came over and asked her for her phone number. They were married for 63 years and had three children form their union {Cathy, Patty, and Trina} and their family expanded with four grandchildren (Christopher, Kelsey Robert, and Logan}. Mr. Louis word as an Engineer. Ms. Taylor love crafts, sewing, and reading. Her choice of religion is Baptist. Ms. Taylor says she loves the prestige of building, staff, and activities. The Goldton at Athens. Her favorite meal is Steak, shrimp, and potatoes.

Recipe Spotlight:

Kjötsúpa: Icelandic Lamb Soup

Ingredients:
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon finely chopped garlic
3 pounds bone-in lamb shoulder or thick chops
1 medium onion, sliced
1/3 cup brown rice, or rolled oats
6 cups water
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 head cabbage, coarsely chopped
3 medium carrots, 1/2-inch dice
1/2 cup diced rutabaga
1 cup cauliflower florets, optional
4 medium potatoes, 1/2-inch dice
Salt, to taste
Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Directions:
Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Sauté garlic for 1–2 minutes without browning. Add lamb and brown on all sides.
Stir in onion, sauté briefly, then add rice and water. Bring to a boil, skimming off froth, and boil for 5 minutes.
Reduce heat to medium, add thyme and oregano, cover, and simmer for 40 minutes.
Add cabbage, carrots, rutabaga, cauliflower (if using), and potatoes. Cook for 20 minutes until vegetables are tender.
Remove meat, chop coarsely, and return to the pot. Simmer for 5 minutes.
Season with salt and pepper, serve, and enjoy!

Joye Vinson was born August 19, 2000, to the parents Chasty Vinson, and Victor Stover in Decatur, Al… Joye started working for The Goldton at Athens. Joye was home schooled at Christain Academy. Joye has two siblings that lives with her. Her choice of religion is Christain. Her hobbies are cooking, crafting, going to the movies, and spending time with her family. Joye says that her favorite thing about working at The Goldton at Athens is her love for the residents and her co-workers.
