Leader of the Month

This month Manager of the is The Goldton at Athens Maintenance director. Anthony has been a good send to this community. The residents are glad that he’s here but keep him busy as well. Anthony has been building and taking care of homes for many years. When he’s not working, he enjoys spending time with his wife.

With over 700 miles of trails in Glacier providing outstanding opportunities for both short hikes and extended backpacking trips, there’s something for everyone.

Playing brain teasers

The resident love playing Jeopardy, hangman, and Word Within a word. They will ask for certain letters to be a word. Many of them can look at the word when it is on the board and come up with at least ten words. When playing Jeopardy, the residents can remember at least 90% of the answers to the questions asked. The residents have a great time playing these games and the enjoyment comes from watching them having fun and their faces after playing the games.

Glacier
National Park

The iconic symbol of Glacier National Park is the mountain goat. This young goat is just learning to scamper around the rocky cliffs in the park.

Crafty crafters

Crafty Crafters have been one of the activities that have been getting larger. The residents are enjoying more the crafts more. So, coming up with crafts that they enjoy can be a challenge. They have been enjoying both the crafts I come up with for them and the crafts from the national parks that we have been visiting all year.

A showcase of melting glaciers, alpine meadows, carved valleys, and spectacular lakes. With over 700 miles of trails, Glacier is a paradise for adventurous visitors seeking a landscape steeped in human culture.

Trinity Reform Chruch

When this group comes here to entertain the residents, they have such a good time with the residents. One of the children asked for one of the residents by name when they came back. The residents like that this group comes in and ask questions about them so that they can get to know them. They also play music and play games with the residents.

Resident of the Month

Robbie Sullivan

Ms. Robbie was born Robbie Graves on December 30, 1928, to the parents of Dona and Walter Graves in Lawrenceburg, TN… Ms. Robbie is one of ten children. Ms. Robbie had four brothers and five sisters. Ms. Robbie and her husband Alexender grew up knowing one another. They started dating when Ms. Robbie was 15. Alexender went to serve in the Army and while he was on leave, they were married after she turned 17. Their union produced three beautiful sons. Ms. Robbie has 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 15 great-greatgrandchildren. Ms. Robbie’s religion is Baptist. She says that the works at The Goldton make her feel loved. Ms. Robbie favorite meal is chicken fried chicken or Southern fried, mashed potatoes and purple hauled peas with sweet tea.

Recipe Spotlight:

Traditional Scones

Ingredients:
1 Egg
2 heaped teaspoons – Baking Powder
25 grams – Caster Sugar
1 heaped teaspoon – Vanilla Sugar (or caster sugar)
25 grams – Vegetable Shortening (or lard)
500 grams – Plain Flour
1 teaspoon – Salt (fine)
50 grams – Butter (unsalted)
250 milliliters – Heavy Whipping Cream (or double cream)
250 milliliters – Full Cream Milk
1 tablespoon – Milk

Directions:
Preheat the oven to 220°C (430°F) and place a baking tray inside to warm. Mix flour, salt, sugar, and baking powder in a bowl. Add butter and lard (or shortening), blending until it resembles damp sand. Gradually add milk, mixing until the dough just comes together. Avoid overworking the dough.

Roll the dough on a floured surface to about 3 cm (1 inch) thick. Cut scones with a round cutter, reshaping the dough gently if needed. Place scones close together on a baking tray. Brush with egg wash (beaten egg and milk). Bake for 10-15 minutes until golden. Check doneness with a thermometer (center should reach 85°C/185°F). Serve warm or at room temperature with Chantilly cream and strawberry jam.

Chantilly Cream: Whisk cream and sugar until soft peaks form.

Marilyn was born July 7, 1988, to the parents of Mary and Bobby Boyd in Lawrenceburg, TN… Marilyn has one sister and one brother. she attended Clements High School. Marilyn was married to her husband Anthony Boyd in 2008. Marilyn has two daughters (Abby,17) and (Briley,11). Marilyn is Christain. When she isn’t working, she enjoys reading and being on social media. Marilyn says she loves working here at The Goldton is because of the residents, her co-workers and the management team because it feels like family.
