Leader of the month

Candace Duncan was raised as an only child. As an adult she found her sister. Candace has three children two girls and one son. She is a grandmother of three one granddaughter and two grandsons. Candace started working as a CNA when she was 16. She attended school for Medical Billing and Coding in 2018, and she graduated with honors. She started working here at The Goldton five years ago as the concierge and was promoted to the business office manager position. When Candace isn’t working you can find her spending time with her family and having fun with her dog.

Australian Joy

Alexa, play Down Under, by Men at work.

Released in 1981, “Down Under” quickly became a defining song of Australian identity. With its catchy flute riff and witty lyrics, it celebrates the country’s laid-back spirit, humor, and pride. More than a global hit, it remains an unofficial anthem—an upbeat tribute to Australia’s culture, people, and sense of adventure.

Veterans Day

This year for Veteran’s Day will be something different than what we’re used to doing. The ROTC will be here to help honor the Veterans. There will be a revealing of the new Veterans wall. The family are invited to help The Goldton at Athens honor them. The missing table will be set by one of the members of the ROTC. There are some other surprises for the veterans that I hope they will like. Steve and Mark aren’t able to attend this year they will be missed.

Welcome to Australia
Around the World with Atlas

Australia, the world’s largest island and smallest continent, is a land of striking contrasts—from its vast deserts and tropical rainforests to its bustling coastal cities. Indigenous Australians have lived on the continent for over 60,000 years, developing rich spiritual traditions and deep connections to the land. Their art, music, and stories remain an essential part of the nation’s cultural identity today.

European settlement began in 1788 with the arrival of the First Fleet from Britain, marking the start of Australia’s colonial era. British influence shaped the nation’s language, institutions, and political systems, though this period also brought immense hardship to Indigenous communities. Over time, Australia evolved from a collection of colonies into a unified federation in 1901, forging its own democratic and multicultural identity.

Modern Australia is known for its relaxed lifestyle, love of the outdoors, and vibrant cultural mix. From iconic landmarks like the Sydney Opera House and Uluru to its world-class art, music, and sport, the country reflects both its ancient heritage and modern dynamism—a place where tradition and innovation coexist under the southern sun.

Halloween Crafts

Every month the residents have crafts, but the holidays are here, and the crafts are changing. The residents did their first Halloween craft that they were supposed to use their hands to make the craft. So, let me say that didn’t happen only one of them did it the way it was supposed to be done. It was hilarious but they all got through it. Even the second craft they did was also one they have to use their hands and we all laughed. Doing crafts with this group of ladies is never a dull moment.

National Calendar Holiday

Some of us use the National day calendar that have things that you would never think are on it. October 7 was national wear a hat day and many of the team members and some of the residents showed up and showed out. The one thing I can say about this community is that we will show up even we think not many of them will. It will put a smile on the lifestyles director’s face.
