Bill & Polly Phelps<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

We are honored to recognize Bill and Polly Phelps as our Residents of the Month!<\/p>

William and Paulette (\u201cPolly\u201d) Phelps are a deeply loved couple whose story is rooted in faith, devotion, and an unwavering commitment to family. As their family beautifully shares, \u201cthey are one.\u201d After more than sixty years of marriage, that truth is evident to anyone who meets them.<\/span><\/p>

Their story began right here in the Charleston area. Bill, born in Coleraine, North Carolina, and Polly, born in Jacksonville, Florida, both attended Chicora High School in North Charleston. They met at Charleston Heights Baptist Church, and after just three months of dating, they knew\u2014they were meant to spend their lives together. When Polly\u2019s father, who served in the Navy, was being transferred, Bill asked for her hand in marriage, not wanting to let her go. And just like that, their lifelong journey began.<\/p>

Together, they built a beautiful life, raising four children, who would go on to bless them with nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Their family is a true legacy\u2014one built not just on numbers, but on deep connection, love, and closeness.<\/p>

Their journey took them briefly to Shelbyville, Tennessee, with three children in tow\u2014returning to Charleston with a fourth on the way. Over the years, they built homes and memories across the Lowcountry, most notably the family home on Margaret Drive in Ladson, where their children grew up and later brought their own children to visit. In a full-circle moment, they eventually returned to Charleston Heights, just doors down from Polly\u2019s childhood home.<\/p>

Bill dedicated his career to Lockheed on Azalea Drive, beginning at just 18 years old and remaining there until the plant closed. His life was defined by hard work, quiet strength, and a deep sense of responsibility to his family. Though he once loved the thrill of motorcycles, he chose to step away from that passion out of love for his wife and children\u2014later finding joy in sailing.<\/p>

Polly was the heart of the home\u2014a nurturing, resourceful, and deeply devoted mother. From sewing clothes and creating Halloween costumes to filling Christmas mornings with joy (often through lovingly restored yard sale finds), she made every moment magical. Later in life, she built a successful career in real estate before serving as a dedicated mail carrier in Summerville.<\/p>

Their home was always full\u2014not just with love, but with life. Children, grandchildren, pets of every kind\u2014from dogs and cats to ducks, hamsters, and even the occasional adventurous critter\u2014created a lively, joyful household filled with memories and laughter.<\/p>

Bill and Polly have been part of the Wildcat family since December 2023, and their presence continues to bring warmth, wisdom, and a beautiful example of enduring love to our community.<\/p>

Their story reminds us that life truly does come full circle\u2014and that the greatest legacy we leave is the love we build along the way.<\/p>
