We are thrilled to announce the return of Lifelong Learners GTX to The Oscar. This is a wonderful opportunity for our residents to engage in lifelong learning. Starting January 28th and continuing through February, The Oscar is partnering with Lifelong Learners GTX to offer a variety of enriching classes.<\/p>

As members of The Oscar community, all residents are welcome to participate in these classes at no cost (non-residents pay to attend). Ingredients:
<\/strong>2 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon finely chopped garlic
3 pounds bone-in lamb shoulder or thick chops
1 medium onion, sliced
1\/3 cup brown rice, or rolled oats
6 cups water
1\/2 teaspoon dried thyme
1\/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1\/2 head cabbage, coarsely chopped
3 medium carrots, 1\/2-inch dice
1\/2 cup diced rutabaga
1 cup cauliflower florets, optional
4 medium potatoes, 1\/2-inch dice
Salt, to taste
Freshly ground black pepper, to taste<\/p>

Directions:<\/strong>
Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Saut\u00e9 garlic for 1\u20132 minutes without browning. Add lamb and brown on all sides.
Stir in onion, saut\u00e9 briefly, then add rice and water. Bring to a boil, skimming off froth, and boil for 5 minutes.
Reduce heat to medium, add thyme and oregano, cover, and simmer for 40 minutes.
Add cabbage, carrots, rutabaga, cauliflower (if using), and potatoes. Cook for 20 minutes until vegetables are tender.
Remove meat, chop coarsely, and return to the pot. Simmer for 5 minutes.

This month, we’d like to shine a spotlight on one of our beloved residents, Louise Sanders.<\/p>

Louise has always had a passion for working with children, finding joy in teaching Sunday school, reading stories, and playing games. She also enjoyed swimming and shopping during her free time.<\/p>

Family and faith have always been central to Louise’s life. She met her husband in 1965 while attending college and they were married for 44 wonderful years. During their time in the Air Force, they embarked on many exciting travels, a passion that continued throughout their retirement years.<\/p>

Louise is the proud mother of two daughters: Laura, an eye doctor, and Christy, who works with computers at an Air Force Base in Georgia. She is also blessed with four amazing grandchildren and two adorable great-grandchildren.<\/p>

In her leisure time, Louise enjoys playing card games like Rummikub, Hand and Foot, Canasta, and Mexican Train.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
