One of the most enduring symbols in the United States is the bald eagle—a majestic bird chosen in 1782 as the national emblem.

With its fierce gaze and powerful wingspan, the bald eagle represents strength, courage, and the soaring ideals of liberty that define the American identity.

Memory Care | Resident of the Month

JoDe Angelo

One thing everyone knows about joe is that he always has a smile on his face and is ready to make new friends. Joe loves to play golf, go on
nature walks, and spend time with his lovely wife sally. Joe is always ready to do activities and loves to try new things!

Jazz Masterpieces

Alexa play "Chamaleon" with "Herbie Hancock"

A funky, synth-driven masterpiece from 1973 that redefined jazz fusion. Hancock merged electronic sounds with improvisation, paving the way for future generations of experimental artists.

Rock & Roll
Hall of Fame

Alexa play "White Rabbit" from "Jefferson Airplane"

A surreal trip through Lewis Carroll’s Wonderland, laced with psychedelic imagery and rising tension. It became an anthem of the counterculture and a landmark of the Summer of Love. Psychedelic rock at its finest — often used to portray the “perfect trip.” The year was 1967, and the album was Surrealistic Pillow.

Direct TV

Hello everyone,
As you all know, we’ve officially switched over to DIRECTV. It’s been a bit of a process, but we are now fully transitioned and have access to all accounts. This means that you’re now able to upgrade your channel packages if you’d like, and residents with two TVs in their rooms can request a second box. If you need help with any of these services—or if you’re experiencing any issues with DIRECTV—please submit a work order, and I’ll come by to assist you. Thanks for your patience during the transition!

Embracing the Summer

Dear Residents, Families, and Friends,
As we welcome the heart of summer this July, I want to take a moment to reflect on the warmth, connection, and meaningful care that define life here at The Goldton at Venice. This month is all about celebrating independence, even in small moments—like sharing a smile, listening to a favorite song, or recalling a cherished memory.

The Fourth of July offers a beautiful opportunity to honor the strength and spirit of our residents. Many of them have lived through decades of American history and have powerful stories to share. While the day may look a little different in Memory Care, we take great care to create celebrations that are familiar, calming, and joyful, with music, gentle decorations, and comforting foods that can spark recognition and bring smiles.

July also brings warmer days, and our team is especially attentive to the unique needs of those living with dementia during the summer season. We’ll continue to ensure residents stay hydrated, spend time outdoors safely, and engage in sensory-friendly, temperature-appropriate activities—like indoor gardening, watercolor painting, and music therapy.

To our families, thank you for your continued trust and support. We understand the journey of memory loss can be difficult, and we’re honored to walk alongside you, offering care, dignity, and compassion every step of the way. If you have questions or want to talk, I encourage you to reach out or stop by. We’re always here for you.

Wishing you a peaceful, safe, and heartwarming July.
With love and appreciation,
Laura Blakeman, Executive Director

Welcome to the United States of America
Around the World with Atlas

The United States of America is a vast and diverse nation, shaped by a bold spirit of freedom, innovation, and cultural fusion. From towering skyscraper cities to serene national parks, from the sounds of jazz and rhythm & blues to the electrifying pulse of rock & roll, the U.S. radiates a restless energy that has left a lasting cultural impact around the globe.

More than a global superpower in terms of industrial influence and technological innovation, the United States is also a leading force in the arts and cultural development. It has played a central role in shaping the modern world as we know it. The rise of Silicon Valley and the culture surrounding today’s tech giants is the result of a long legacy of American ingenuity and creative drive.

Activity Update

Dear Families,
We’re always looking for ways to help you stay connected with your loved ones, and we’re excited to share a new, easy-to-use feature available through Amazon Alexa that does just that!
Introducing: Alexa’s “Drop-In” and “Call” Features
With Alexa-enabled devices (like an Echo or Echo Show), you can now effortlessly check in with your loved one, enjoy a quick chat, or even share a smile—no phone required. Once set up, all it takes is a simple voice command to instantly connect.
Why Families Love It:
• Hands-free communication for residents—no buttons or screens to navigate
• Real-time conversations to brighten their day anytime
• More personal than a text and easier than a phone call for many of our residents
Additionally, we’re excited to remind you about the Speak2 app, which gives family members convenient access to a variety of helpful tools. As a user, you can monitor daily activities, view menu options, and stay in the loop with important community updates—all from your phone.
We believe in keeping our residents connected, engaged, and cared for—and this is just one more way to bring families closer together, even from afar.
If you’re interested in learning how to set any of this up or have questions about device compatibility, feel free to reach out to our team. We’re here to help!
