Robert

This is Robert, a very happy and friendly man. He is very close to his sister (Sue) and adores her visits and outings. He loves to watch sports so don’t try and tear him away from TV when his favorite teams are playing.
Robert was a numbers guy; he worked for the IRS his entire life. Once he retired, he took up golf, boating and fishing. We are so happy that he is apart of the Goldton family.

Scottish Heart

Alexa play "The Enchanted Gypsy" from "Donovan"

Appearing on Donovan’s 1967 double album A Gift from a Flower to a Garden fused psychedelic folk with childlike wonder, marking him as a true Scottish poet-storyteller.

A mystical ballad of freedom and wandering, weaving Donovan’s fascination with the romantic spirit of the road.

Scotland: The Land Beyond the Wall
When the Roman Empire pushed north into Britannia, it met fierce tribes the legions could never conquer. To mark the limit of their reach, the Romans built Hadrian’s Wall, and further north, the Antonine Wall — yet beyond lay the untamed lands we now call Scotland.

By the 8th century, Scotland began to take shape as a kingdom, often in conflict with its southern neighbor, England. Centuries of wars, heroes like William Wallace, and an enduring sense of independence defined its story. In 1707, Scotland formally united with England, creating Great Britain, which later grew into the United Kingdom alongside Ireland.

Still today, Scotland remains proudly distinct — with its Gaelic roots, tartans, castles, and legendary landscapes reminding the world of a culture that was never fully subdued.

Tips from our Wellness Director

Sun Safety in Florida: Why Sunscreen is Essential to Prevent Skin Cancer

Living in the Sunshine State comes with undeniable perks—beautiful beaches, year-round warm weather, and plenty of time outdoors. But Florida’s constant sun exposure also brings serious health risks, particularly when it comes to skin cancer.

The Importance of Sunscreen
Sunscreen is one of the most effective tools to protect your skin from harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays. These rays can damage the skin’s DNA, leading to premature aging, sunburns, and the development of skin cancers such as basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and the deadliest form—melanoma.

Dermatologists recommend using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher. Apply it 15 minutes before going outside and reapply every two hours, or more often if swimming or sweating. Don’t forget often-missed areas like your ears, neck, and the tops of your feet.

Florida’s Unique Risks
Florida’s geographic location means UV exposure is high year-round, even on cloudy days. With so many outdoor activities—from boating to gardening—

More Than Just Sunscreen
While sunscreen is essential, it should be part of a broader sun safety routine:
• Wear protective clothing, hats, and sunglasses
• Seek shade, especially between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
• Avoid tanning beds entirely
• Get regular skin checks with a dermatologist

Final Thoughts
Protecting your skin is not just about avoiding a sunburn—it’s about preventing long-term, potentially life-threatening damage. In sunny Florida, sunscreen isn’t optional—it’s a daily necessity.

Tips for Healthy Living

The highest levels of anxiety and depression have been reported since the pandemic began. Let’s address the needs of those living with mental illness, as loneliness and isolation are still significant.

Be realistic
If you feel overwhelmed by some activities (yours and/or your family’s), learn to say no. If you meet resistance, give reasons why you’re making the changes. Be willing to listen to others’ suggestions and be ready to compromise.

Shed the “superhero” urge
No one is perfect, so don’t expect perfection from yourself or others. Ask yourself, “What really needs to be done?” How much can I do? Don’t hesitate to ask for help if you need it.

Take one thing at a time
The best way to cope with feeling overwhelmed is to focus on one task at a time. Pick one urgent task and work on it. Once you accomplish that task, choose the next one. The positive feeling of “checking off” tasks is very satisfying and will motivate you to keep going.

Physical fitness
About six in ten adults in the U.S. live with a chronic health condition. Regular exercise, even in small amounts, can improve both physical and mental well-being, reduce stress, and provide a greater sense of control.

SCREED to READ
AND THEN THERE WAS ME
I’m getting on in years
Forgetting things from yesterday
Yet knowing things from other years.
Accumulated a lot of knowledge
(Can’t use it with my porridge),
Willing to share it with one and all
Better listen now before I fall.
Jolly fellow most of the time
And at times I can be sublime.
Loving, caring, living with glee
Mostly when I’m proud of me.
I could say more BUT
I don’t want to BORE.

The Bar
The bar is not to far for people that don’t have a car
The Bar is a welcoming place where you toast with beer
And there’s copious cheer.
The regulars come regularly to imbibe
They gather one by one, some sit at table one
Others if they bother will come and find another
There’s also the “Town Clown” that shows up occasionally
Who adds to the revelry. But I’ll be that one be
Then there’s the big table where a big group gathers
Some days the choose to go to the big room to eat just for a treat
At the big table there is Belinda who is always looking for Splenda
Eventually some found and she’s heaven bound
All and all these bar denizens are upstanding Goldton residents.
