The Tudor Rose

A timeless symbol of unity, the Tudor Rose combines the red rose of Lancaster and the white rose of York—emblems of rival houses during the Wars of the Roses. When Henry VII united the two through marriage, this floral symbol became a lasting emblem of peace and the English crown.

Memory Care | Resident of the Month

Delphene Bonk

Meet our resident of the month! This is Delphene Bonk, Delphene is one of the sweetest people you will meet. She always has a smile on her face and loves to give hugs. She enjoys kicking her feet up and relaxing with a movie on the TV. Her favorite holiday is the fourth of July. Back home she used to host huge fourth of July parties on the lake, she is always sure to make you feel at home.

English Heart

Alexa play "Money" from "Pink Floyd"

With its clinking cash registers and offbeat rhythm, “Money” turns capitalism into a rock anthem. Built in an unusual 7/4 time signature, the song grooves with sarcasm and swagger, driven by Roger Waters’ biting lyrics and David Gilmour’s bluesy solo. Featured on The Dark Side of the Moon — one of the best-selling albums of all time — it became the band’s first U.S. hit. Decades later, its critique of materialism rings louder than ever.

Working through Dementia

To deal with dementia, consider the following strategies:

Understand Behaviors: Familiarize yourself with common dementia behaviors and how to manage them effectively.

Communication: Use clear and simple language and be patient. Non-verbal cues can also be helpful.

Create a Safe Environment: Ensure the living space is safe and familiar to reduce confusion and anxiety.

Seek Support: Don’t hesitate to ask for help from caregivers or support groups. Practicing patience is crucial.

Do’s and Don’ts: Follow expert advice on what to do and what to avoid when interacting with someone with dementia to deescalate situations.

These strategies can help improve the quality of life for both caregivers and individuals with dementia.

Everyone is welcome to join the Goldton Support group held on the second Thursday of every month in Emory Theater.

From the Desk of Laura

Dear Residents,
As we welcome August, I want to take a moment to thank each of you for making our Independent Living community such a warm and vibrant place.

This summer has been filled with laughter, friendship, and wonderful memories, and it’s a joy to see how you support and uplift one another each day.

Looking ahead, we’re excited to bring you more opportunities to stay engaged, active, and connected. Our team has planned a variety of activities for August, including a health fair on August 12th on Main Street, as well as programs to nurture wellness, creativity, and social connection. We will also be working on some updates in common areas such as the courtyard and by the pool.

As always, we encourage you to share your ideas and feedback with us. Whether it’s suggestions for activities, dining, or ways we can enhance your experience, your voice helps us continue building a community you are proud to call home.

Thank you for being such an essential part of what makes life here so special. Here’s to another month of friendship, fun, and making the most of every day!

Updates and highlights from our Assisted Living community.

This summer has been full of energy and connection as we’ve enjoyed lively events, delicious seasonal menus, and wonderful moments together. From ice cream socials and live entertainment to outings and creative workshops, it’s been a joy to see residents engaged and making the most of each day.

Looking ahead, we have more special events planned for August, including a health fair on August 12th on Main Street in Independent Living. We’ll continue to focus on meaningful programs that promote wellness, creativity, and connection.

Updates and highlights from our Memory Care neighborhood.

This summer has been filled with meaningful moments and engaging activities designed to bring joy and connection to your loved ones. From music therapy sessions and art projects to garden walks and baking days, our team continues to focus on creating a warm, supportive environment where residents can thrive.

I’d also like to share an update about our team. Brooke, our wonderful Activities Assistant, will soon be transitioning into a new role in the building as our Move-In Coordinator. We’re so excited for her as she takes on this position and know she will continue to make a positive impact on residents and families in her new capacity.

In the coming weeks, we’re excited to introduce more sensory-based activities and small group programs tailored to meet the unique needs of our residents. These experiences not only stimulate memory and creativity but also encourage socialization and a sense of purpose.

Thank you for entrusting us with the privilege of serving your family. We look forward to another month filled with connection, comfort, and care.

Warmly,
Laura Blakeman, Executive Director

Welcome to England
Around the World with Atlas

England’s story begins long before it was called by that name—when Celtic Britons inhabited its misty hills and Roman legions reached the edge of their empire in a land they called Britannia. Though Rome left its mark with roads, baths, and Hadrian’s Wall, the far north—home to fierce tribes and enigmatic druids—remained unconquered. After the Romans withdrew, waves of Saxon settlers shaped a new identity, giving birth to a nation where myth and history often blur.

At the heart of this early tapestry is the legend of King Arthur, the once and future king said to have united Britain with the help of Merlin the wizard, the sword Excalibur, and the noble Knights of the Round Table. Whether myth or memory, these tales reveal England’s deep-rooted fascination with destiny, honor, and the magic of storytelling—traditions that would shape its greatest literary voices.

From the poetic grandeur of Shakespeare to the epic realms of J.R.R. Tolkien and the modern wizarding world of J.K. Rowling, English literature has enchanted readers across centuries. And in music, few countries have left such a global imprint. With sounds ranging from the rebellious rock of The Rolling Stones to the dreamscapes of Pink Floyd, and the timeless genius of The Beatles and David Bowie, England’s cultural output is as powerful and enduring as its history.

From the Desk of the Business Office Director

Happy August Everyone!
Just a few gentle reminders.

Please alert the Concierge Desk if you have a vehicle or license plate change. This helps us monitor parking for our residents.

We love all our furry friends, however, please remember that dogs must be on a short leash when out and about in the community. Per State Food & Beverage Regulations animals cannot be brought into any of our food consumption areas, which includes the Bistro, Bernard’s Bar, and Palmer’s Restaurant.

Please make sure that you sign your receipt when you have guest meals , and drinks billed to your room. This way I can make sure that I am billing correctly when I complete the monthly billing statements.
The Goldton at Venice is a Non-Smoking Community. Smokers must go oƯ property on the sidewalk to smoke. Please do not put cigarette butts in the flower beds.

Thank you and enjoy these sunny August days!

Maintenance Updates

We know we’ve been saying the floors would be done soon, and we truly appreciate your patience. We’ve been working closely with a company to finalize everything, and we’re happy to let you know that the flooring project is scheduled for Wednesday, July 16th. The work should be completed by the end of the day.
We understand that construction can be inconvenient, and we’re sorry for any disruptions, but these upgrades are necessary to improve the look and feel of the building.
In addition to the flooring, we’ll also be replacing the pool fence on the same day.
We’re doing everything we can to make this place feel like a brand-new building, and we truly appreciate your continued patience and support as we work through these improvements!
As we are now in hurricane season, I want to let you all know that we are fully prepared. The generator is already connected to all the essential systems we need to get through any storm.
On July 22nd, a company will be coming out to connect the hallway outlets near the front doors to the generator. This will allow us to provide power to every room that needs it.
If you have any extension cords, it would be a great help to bring them in so we can ensure we have enough for everyone in the building.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. We are safe in this building and fully equipped to handle anything this season throws our way.
Stay safe and thank you all for your cooperation!
Chris O’Connor
