Associate of the Month: Heather Casada
We’re thrilled to announce Heather Casada as our November Associate of the Month!
Heather has been a shining presence in our Spring Park Community, demonstrating love and compassion for both residents and staff. Always ready to help, she joyfully engages with our resident by participating in activities, and she works hard to keep our community sparkling clean.
A lifelong resident of Travelers Rest, Heather is a devoted mother to her children, Allie (12) and JJ (10). When she’s not ensuring a clean and welcoming environment, she enjoys attending Renfrew Baptist Church and indulging in her hobbies, such as music, singing, writing, and watching TV. She loves thrill rides at amusement parks and cherishes family vacations at the beach or mountains. An animal lover, she shares her home with four small dogs and a cat.
Heather’s favorite Bible verse is Philippians 4:13, reflecting her strong faith and commitment to family. We are grateful for her hard work and the positivity she brings to our community. Congratulations, Heather, on this well-deserved recognition!
November is Alzheimer Awareness Month
Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia. It’s a progressive brain disease that develops slowly but has a huge impact on those who have it, their families, and caregivers.
With ever-growing numbers of people affected, Alzheimer’s has an oversized effect on communities, healthcare systems, and the economy.
November is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month. The disease isn’t a normal part of aging, and it’s worth talking about. If you are a care giver or if you are touched by this disease in anyway and need coping skills, education, direction, friendly support and updated treatment information then please consider joining a local support group for Alzheimer’s. Joining a free support group, will help you in so many ways such as meeting new friends that will understand exactly what you and your family are going through so it can make the road, you’re having to go down not so hopeless. It will give you downtime for yourself and give you a chance to focus on ideas as well as solutions to your unique issues.

5 Simple Healthy Thanksgiving Tips
Tip #1 Stuff the bird not your gut.
Try eating just one small spoonful of each of your favorite holiday items on the Thanksgiving table. So instead of doubling down on your favorites and piling up, take it slow and you will find that your belly will feel just right and comfortable instead of the dreaded food coma and bloating.
Tip #2 Add more fresh veggies to the table.
Okay we all love a cozy warm casserole but the effects it has on your health is not so warm and fuzzy. Instead of having four or five casseroles, which are usually full of cheese that can be high in fat and salt. So, save time and your heart by keeping it simple by preparing a bunch of colorful fall veggies and squashes that can be baked or steamed.
Tip#3 Drink water throughout the day and while cooking to stay hydrated and drink a full glass 30 mins prior to eating, it will make you feel full, so you have a better chance of not overeating as much.
Tip#4 Do not starve yourself all morning or day waiting for that golden bird. You will set yourself up for major overeating. your bodies need for fuel will lead to you will having little restraint or portion control. Waiting too long to eat can also cause you to eat too fast and have indigestion later.
Tip#5 Pause before each bite you take and mentally give thanks for not only the hands that prepared it but be thankful for every hand that was involved getting it to your table. While eating think about the full circle of that meat, veggie, and bread. Eat slowly and savor each bite while thanking each person that made it possible such as the truck drivers, farmers, and grocery workers. Say a quick blessing to each one you think of.
Having this mind set will keep you very full, full of thanks and gratitude!

Resident of the Month
The Browns
This November, we are excited to spotlight Patricia and Ernie Brown as Spring Park’s Residents of the Month. Celebrating nearly 64 years of marriage this December, the Browns exemplify dedication and love, not only to each other but also to our community and their church community.
Pat and Ernie met as high school seniors at the Kash and Karry in Greenville, where they both worked as cashiers. Their connection was immediate amidst the hustle of ringing up customers, with lines often stretching to the back of the store on busy Friday nights. After graduating High school (Ernie from Taylors High School and Pat from Berea High) the couple tied the knot, began building a life together and not long started raising three children.
Ernie embarked on a career with McClary Sprinkler System before transitioning to CSX, where he dedicated over 30 years to the railroad industry. Meanwhile, Pat made a significant impact as a teacher’s aide at Berea Elementary, nurturing young minds in the community. After their children got older Pat went to work for 20 years at TNS Brass and Bronze. If they were not with their family they would be in their garden, they loved having a big garden and enjoyed canning vegetables or camping at the beach. Their commitment to their professions was matched only by their commitment to family, raising two daughters and a son, and cherishing moments with their two grandchildren.
Upon retiring at just 60, the Browns embraced a new chapter filled with adventure. They loved spending time at their lake home on Lake Greenwood which is still a haven for relaxation. Never slowing down on travel and explorations, they also enjoyed camping and traveling with the Christian Tour group with their church. Their journeys have taken them across the United States, visiting breathtaking destinations like Yellowstone Park, the Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls, Alaska, Maine, Bahamas, and the Florida Keys, just to name a few.
A charming tradition they’ve cultivated over the past 20 years is dressing alike during their travels with the church groups and they dress alike today. You will notice them walking around Spring Park Community enjoying all community activities and socials. Whether exploring new landscapes or spending time with family, Patricia and Ernie remain inseparable, inspiring everyone around them with their love and companionship.
We love having Pat and Ernie so involved in activities at Spring Park. From Outings and Nerf gun shoot outs with staff to enriching our spiritual growth in the community by also bring in entertainment from their church family as well as letting us join in to help them with packing shoe boxes for their annual Christmas Shoe Box Samaritans Purse Ministry, where Pat still crochets over 100 kids Beenie hats that are beautiful and joyfully packed in each box! Join us in celebrating Patricia and Ernie Brown, not just as dedicated Spring Park residents but as an enduring example of love, adventure, and community spirit!
