Resident of the Month
Nancy Schulte
Congratulations to Nancy Schulte our Resident of the Month for September. Nancy is a beautiful, fun, and social member of our community. She joined Legacy Ridge at Sandy Plains in March of this year and has been an absolute delight for our residents and staff. She is from Marietta, Georgia and has also lived in Florida. She enjoys reading, gardening, and visiting with friends. Nancy also likes reading the newspaper, listening to opera and classical music and political podcasts. She loves it when Luna our therapy dog comes to visit and is a true animal lover, especially dogs and horses. Her daughter and family live in the area and are regular visitors to our community and enjoy attending our monthly Wine Down Wednesday’s event. Nancy’s granddaughter, Abby frequently visits her grandmother and has joined in with activities. They share a beautiful and precious bond. Nancy says her granddaughter is truly special and it’s such a joy to see the love and bond they share. All of us at Legacy Ridge at Sandy Plains are so fortunate to have the effervescent Nancy Schulte in our community.

Music is Magical
Nineteenth century poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow once said, “Music is the universal language of mankind.” We incorporate music into our daily programming for our residents and strive to bring many different musical programs to Sandy Plains each month. We always invite families to join us for these special events. This month in addition to our favorite entertainers, we are thrilled to have two events with the amazing and talented singers, musicians and entertainers from the First Presbyterian Church of Marietta. When these gifted volunteers performed for our community last month it was like Broadway and Carnegie Hall were at Sandy Springs. Please join us!
Rocky Mountain National Park
Rocky Mountain National Park’s 415 square miles (265,807 acres) encompasses a spectacular range of mountain environments. From meadows found in the montane life zone to glistening alpine lakes and up to the towering mountain peaks, there is something for everyone to discover.
National Assisted Living Week
This week begins on September 8th and it goes through September 14th. The theme this year is “Inspiring Generations”. We will be celebrating our residents, families and staff this week at Legacy Ridge at Sandy Plains.
Associate of the Month
Concierge Team Wendy Emert and Judith Rezende
Congratulations to Our Concierge Team at Legacy Ridge at Sandy Plains: Wendy Emert and Judith Rezende
Wendy Emert
Wendy describes herself as an “artsy soul” with a background in real estate, custom furniture, bedding, and window treatment sales. She is a twin born on Thanksgiving, with three older sisters and a younger brother. Wendy has two wonderful grown children: her daughter, a behavior therapist and mother to three grandchildren under five, and her son, a high school French teacher who is planning a destination wedding for July 2025.
Wendy is a knowledgeable concierge known for her quick smile and helpfulness to our residents, families, and staff. On weekends, she carefully selects movies for our residents, often bringing a movie to the community just for them. She always goes the extra mile in customer service, ensuring that everyone feels cared for. Wendy shares, “What I love most about working as a concierge is the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with the residents. Each day I get to make a positive difference in their lives, whether it’s through small gestures of kindness or helping them stay connected and comfortable.”
Judith Rezende
Judith was born and raised in Georgia, and thanks to her Brazilian parents, she is fluent in Portuguese and Spanish in addition to English. She has a pet Leopard Gecko named Zuki, and enjoys jogging in her free time. Driven by a deep-rooted passion for helping others, Judith pursued a career in nursing. She thrives on creating a welcoming and supportive environment for both residents and their families. Each day presents an opportunity for her to make a meaningful impact, whether through a kind word, thoughtful gesture, or simple act of kindness.
Judith says, “My experience with this community has been guided by a steadfast commitment to compassion, and I am honored to contribute to the well-being of our residents.” Judith handles the phone, offers tech advice, and accepts deliveries almost simultaneously, showcasing her dedication and efficiency.
Our entire Sandy Plains community is grateful for the amazing concierge team of Wendy and Judith. We celebrate you both this September.

Recipe Spotlight:
Beignets & Berries
Ingredients:
- 1/4 cup butter, room temperature
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons warm water (120° to 130°), divided
- 1/2 cup evaporated milk
- 1 package (1/4 ounce) quick-rise yeast
- 1 large egg
- 3-1/4 to 3-3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- Oil for deep-fat frying
- Confectioners’ sugar
- Berries and whipped topping, optional
Directions:
Beat butter, sugar, salt and cinnamon until crumbly. Beat in 1/2 cup water and evaporated milk. In another bowl, dissolve yeast in remaining 2 tablespoons water; add to milk mixture. Beat in egg until blended.
Add 2 cups flour; mix until well blended. Stir in enough remaining flour to form a soft dough (dough will be sticky). Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease the top. Cover; refrigerate 4 hours or overnight.
Bring dough to room temperature. On a floured surface, roll dough into a 16×12-in. rectangle. Cut into 2-in. squares. In a deep cast-iron skillet or deep- fat fryer, heat oil to 375°. Drop beignets, a few at a time, into hot oil. Fry until golden brown, about 1 minute per side. Drain on paper towels. Dust with confectioners’ sugar. If desired, serve with assorted berries and whipped topping.
